The adventures of Tootsie Lama, is a fun story about an independent and adventurous 8 year old girl, Tootsie Lama, who lives in the small hilly town of Darjeeling, all alone. Tenzing is her best friend and partner-in-crime. One day, Tootsie Lama comes up with a plan to get her hands on a bowl of yummy thukpa (noodle soup) and Tenzing readily joins her, to execute the plan to perfection. Tenzing’s mother believes in ONLY ‘healthy’ and home cooked-meals, so he is ready to risk-it-all to eat a bowl of thukpa instead. What follows is a fast paced tale of fun and excitement.
The author, Stuti Agarwal, has done a fantastic job of explaining the fact that Tootsie Lama is an orphan, while at the same time keeping the narration light and cheerful. Tootsie Lama may be only 8 years old, but she is resourceful and very capable of taking care of herself.
This book is sprinkled with delightful full page illustrations by Ishan Trivedi, who very nicely captures the emotions and excitement of this story. This book is perfect for advanced 7 year old readers and above, to read on their own comfortably and can be read aloud to children who are 5+ years old (you may need to break the story up into smaller parts. My 5 year old loved it and we split it into 2 reading sessions.). Children will have fun finding out if our little duo will succeed at getting away with their naughty plan.
This is a good book to help children transition into books with more text than pictures. There are a total of 8 chapters and each chapter is approximately 3-5 pages long. The fast paced and delightful story will keep them interested and laughing all the way.
